Ice Factor preparations under way
14th November 2007
CHRISTMAS lights already wind around the thick trunk of the tree in the Eye of York, as preparations for this year's Ice Factor get under way.
Set against the backdrop of Clifford's Tower and framed by the Castle Museum and the city's crown court, the Eye of York has been a flurry of activity this week.
Workmen have been preparing the lighting and sound systems, erecting the log cabins which frame the rink, and putting up numerous Christmas trees.
Layers of ice already coat the large base of the rink, in time for the thousands of skaters to visit the Ice Factor, open for its third consecutive year, from Saturday.
Over the next 48 hours approximately 80,000 litres of water will be turned into ice on the site, all at a working temperature of minus 15 degrees.
