Quotes from the public
Thank you once again for the Ice Rink at the Designer Outlet. This certainly brings families together, brings the best out of youngsters and teenagers. As a lifelong skater myself I love the sport, I have really enjoyed my visits to this years Ice Factor. Happy New Year.
Just to say Tom had a wonderful afternoon yesterday at The Ice Factor. I have never seen him smile so broadly with shrieks of delight. Please pass on our thanks to the staff who were so keen to help and to take Tom at high speed around the rink, Which he just loves!
The Read School
Thank you – everyone very much enjoyed the trip!
Jo Soden - The Mount School
Just wanted to say that all our pupils had an absolutely brilliant time on the ice last night. It was really magical, especially for those who have never been on an ice rink before! A big thanks to you and to all the staff for being so efficient, friendly and helpful. Looking forward to next year already!!
Janie Cartwright -1st Strensall Cub
We brought our cubs Ice skating and had a fabulous time on Monday.
Just like to say the Ice Factor is absolutely brilliant. I go pretty much everyday and its always worth it. The marshals are so helpful, you can take your own skates. The ice is so smooth. Such a great place to be!
Angela Wynne, Minster FM Competition Winner
I just wanted to say a big thank you to minster fm for the lovely family evening we have had at the ice factor this eve. Topped off by the free skate courtesy of yourselves.Thank you to all involved!

Many thanks from two very happy children, we took our two grandchildren to the rink on Monday evening 21/11/09 and they absolutely loved it. We all signed the petition and we hope you are successful with it. The setting is fantastic and for many first time visitors to York the facility can only add to what is a magical place. (If it was in Central Park New York it could not be any better.) To all the staff we met a big thank you they were excellent and the cafe/bar was also a big bonus for us none skaters. Once again thank you and the kids are already planning the next visit during the Christmas break. P.S it was great to see so many young people enjoying themselves without a hint of trouble and no bad language a real treat in this day and age.
Jodie & The Team @ Fossil York
Thanks so much for everything, the evening was wonderful! It really was the perfect way to get us all in the Xmas mood and just have some fun! We’ve all signed the petition as well to make sure we can do it all again next year! Cheers for all your patience and apologies for the glasses!
Rebecca Hall, Raring2go Magazine
I came with my family on Saturday and we had a great time slipping and sliding our way round the rink. We were impressed with how pretty it all looks, how smoothly the session ran and how helpful the marshals are. The penguins are excellent for little ones and make it more accessible for families with younger members. My husband asked if you could provide big Bobos for adults! I hope you are able to return to the eye of York again next year, or alternatively find another suitable site. It really is a great winter tradition. Best wishes for the rest of the ice Factor season and for a lovely Christmas.
Rachel Warren, Masquerade Skaters
Just a quick email to say thanks again for another fantastic night at the Ice Factor, from all of the masquerade skaters. The staff were so friendly and helpful and were all so accommodating with all of our skate bags. We have all signed your petition and hope we can come again next year! Thanks again for a fabulous night.

We would like to pass on our wholehearted thanks to you and your team for looking after us this morning during our daughter's birthday party. All the staff were exceptional and the catering staff couldn't do enough for us. Once again, thank you for making our daughter's birthday extra special!!
Janet Lund, 1st Wistow Guides
We came to the ice rink in York, please say a Big thank you to all your staff there, they were wonderful. Always smiling and full of fun, as none of the guides had skated before, they were very nervous, your marshalls showed them what to do and they were off, not so the leaders! As soon as they fell they were scooped up off the ice and away again. They all thoroughly enjoyed it and have asked to come again next year. I hope you will be there.
Helen Fagan, First Flaxton Brownies
I just wanted to say thank you for your help in organising the Brownie trip to the Ice Factor last week. The Brownies had a very good time and definitely enjoyed themselves. Thank you.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you and all your staff for their assistance on the night. The children all had a wonderful time and the drinks and donuts were waiting for us when we finished . We are already looking forward to next years visit and the children have spread the news of the ice skating to all their friends at school, so we may have a bigger party next year. Thanks again.
We just wanted to say we loved the party we arranged with you for my daughter. It was well run, friendly and organised. Well done.

A great evening out enjoyed by all the family. The number of staff skating around the ice gives great confidence to any nervous skater and after a fall on the ice, my daughter was given a full check over by staff. I cannot speak highly enough of the care and attention that she was given. We didn't visit Santa or the rides so I cannot comment on them but I can highly recommend the hot chocolate and Gluhwein :-) This really was the perfect evening to get our family into the Christmas spirit - thank you.

Thank you so much guys! Was so romantic and perfect! Huge thankyou to all the staff who helped Jason with make it so special xxxx
Good festive fun! I took my daughter & her friends and they really enjoyed it. You get an hour on the ice and there are plenty of marshals to ensure everyone stays safe. It's a nice atmosphere with a big Xmas tree in the centre of the rink, but I preferred the old location in York centre. Overall a good festive experience!
Magical! Visited on Saturday with a very excited 6 year old! We went to see Santa who was very good with our little girl. He asked plenty of questions and really engaged her in conversation adding to the magic. We had booked in advance and definitely recommend otherwise it's a long wait! Purchased the gold package and very happy with the photo gifts. Parking was a nightmare with people resorting to dumping cars everywhere, would benefit from parking personnel support. Overall a good visit and would go back.

Great start to the festive season! We had a great time skating for an hour. We went on a Sunday and went for the 10.30-11.30 session. It wasn't overly busy on the ice at all which made it more enjoyable. My five year old daughter enjoyed the dodgems and hook a duck in the fairground afterwards. The little scenes from the 'Nutcracker' were also very enjoyable with things for the kids to spot.
A super christmas treat We visited as a family of Mum and 3 children aged 15, 12 and 11 as a birthday treat and to kick off our Christmas festivities. It was a lovely experience. The staff were friendly and helpful. The ice skating rink was so pretty and christmassy. The rides were fine. The grotto was pretty. The drink apres skate thing was super clean, very inviting with lots of candles and lanterns. just a super experience enjoyed by us all - from super skater son to terrible first time Mum. Thanks.
Nice start to a festive period Had a lovely time, staff helpful and friendly...could do with it being a bit more christmassy...the cafe next to the ring was warm and snug slightly over priced but lovely. More toilets are needed near the rink as taking my 2 year old was a treck into the centre and waiting in the massive que was too long for him...other than that we all had great time.
Brownies skating trip - went down a treat with everyone! Our group included 26 x eight year olds, some of which had skated before, some of which had not. Everyone had lots of fun, the staff were on hand to help with children who had fallen over and the hot chocolates and cookies we enjoyed at the end rounded off our evening perfectly. Amazing time, well worth the money. We'll be back next year!!
Best day ever Cool and brilliant It was the best day ever. My kids loved ice skating and playing hook a duck. My ten year old won some toys she loved. They had hot choc and choc marshmallows n candyfloss
Magical My daughters 10th birthday 'Diva Party' was fabulous- well organised, helpful staff and the ice rink & Papas Kitchen were lovely. Everything was great, would recommend.

Did you know? …
- It’s said one hour [skating] on the ice burns 493 calories, so it’s not a bad way to ease your waistline back into shape
- Over 45,000 people came to skate at The Ice Factor last year.
- The Ice Bar & Café has a fully licensed bar.
- It takes 6 days to build the ice rink ready to skate on.
- The ten miles of pipe used in the refrigeration, if laid end to end, would take Kelly Holmes 72.30 minutes to run (based on her Olympic 400m time).
- The ice reaches temperatures of -15 degrees C, three times colder than your household freezer.
